Sofia Alexandra Ovejanu was born with an innate passion for the arts. Her journey into the world of visual arts began with her formal education at the University of Fine Arts in Bucharest, where she specialized in Mural Painting. Over the years, she further honed her skills and deepened her knowledge through various degrees, including doctoral studies at the University of the West, Faculty of Decorative Arts and Design in Timișoara,

2018— UVT research scholarship. Prizes 2021 First Prize, International Competition “Autumn Journal,” Iași 2017 AWS Silver Award at the ArtWalk Street Festival 2017 2013 Distinction “Toile d’Or de l’année 2013,” Paris 2013 3rd place, awarded by the Ministry of Culture at the national competition for the stained glass windows of the Council Chamber in Strasbourg 1990 Member of the Henry Coandă Foundation for Gifted Youth.

Artistic Directorship and Teaching Since March 2015, Ovejanu has served as the Artistic Director of Asociatia Montage in Bucharest, where she has been instrumental in organizing and coordinating cultural events. Her role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, from artistic direction to client relations and curatorship. In addition to her directorial duties, she has been a dedicated painting professor at the Nicolae Tonitza High School of Fine Arts in Bucharest since 2000, inspiring a new generation of artists. Exhibitions and Artistic Contributions Ovejanu’s works have graced numerous group exhibitions both domestically and internationally (more than 40).

Her exhibitions in Romania have been showcased at prestigious venues such as the The Art Galleries of the Romanian Academy, SNAC, The Palace of the Parliament, Jewish Museum, the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant, and the Ion Mincu University of Architecture, to name just a few. Internationally, her art has been displayed at the Grand Palais in Paris, the National Art Museum of Szeget in Hungary, and various cultural institutions in Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, and France.

In addition to her group exhibitions, Ovejanu has held several solo exhibitions, including notable displays at the Palace of the Parliament, the Romanian Peasant Museum, the Iulia Hasdeu Palace, and more. Her solo shows, such as “Landscape, Woods, and Moods” and “The Prince Charming’s Brides,” have been celebrated for their emotive depth and intricate compositions.

Organizational and Curatorial Roles Beyond her contributions as an artist, Ovejanu has been a prolific organizer and coordinator of artistic events. She has led numerous creative camps, such as the “Francophone Confluences” camp in Bulgaria and the “200-Painting/Literature” camp in Buzias.

Her organizational prowess extends to significant cultural happenings like the White Night of Museums at the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant and the “Mythologies for a Given Topos” exhibition as part of Timisoara’s European Capital of Culture events in 2023. Public Art and Performances Ovejanu’s influence extends into public spaces through her scenographic works with installations at the Children’s Museum, the National Museum of Literature, various parks, and significant cultural festivals.

Her performances and public art projects, including the “Krinollete” performance and scenographic pieces for theatrical productions, highlight her versatility and commitment to making art accessible and engaging for the public.
